Wine of the Week: Marc Sorrel Hermitage Blanc “Les Rocoules” 2007

December 22nd, 2010

Every once in a while you get a chance to taste a wine that truly is an experience. I was very fortunate to have had that chance last winter at the Cave of Marc Sorrel. The Hermitage Blanc “Les Rocoules” 2007 is one of those wines.

To quote Josh Raynolds from the International Wine Cellar:

“Light yellow-gold. Deep, smoky pit fruit aromas give way to spicy lemon and white peach scents with air, along with notes of green almond and spicecake. Round, fleshy nectarine and peach flavors stain the palate and are underscored by lively talc and citrus zest notes, with good mineral snap on the back. The almond quality repeats on the finish, which is broad, sappy and extremely long.”

All I can add is that this is one wine I want to share with everyone over the holidays. Unfortunately, very little of this wine makes it to the US. A wine that is not to be missed.
